Development And Research Expeditions

Project Co-ordinator Criteria

Before the project:

   1. Act as a link between DARE and the group e.g. to organise dates for information evenings and pass on information
   2. Act as a link between your project hosts and the group e.g. to finalise your arrival
   3. Ensure group meet up to book flights and organise visas (where applicable) and decide what (if any) project materials to buy before you go to the project.
   4. Ensure the group meet up to make a funding proposal for DARE
   5. Organise who in the group will hold the bank account.
   6. Organise at least one group fundraising event aiming to raise at least £200.
   7. Distribute the groups project review forms to them.

During the project:

   1. Ensure DARE are kept informed of any relevant incidents during the project e.g. any problems with the hosts or yourselves, any worries you have (and obviously the good stuff too!)
   2. Act as a spokesperson for the group when you are abroad or ensure there is another member of the group who is happy to do this. The spokesperson should ensure you and the hosts are happy with what work is being done and help facilitate discussion of any problems which may arise.

Funding

We recommend that one member of the group sets up a bank account with NationWide (if no-one already has one) with a VISA debit card. This is because you are not charged for taking money out of your account while abroad.

Within your group, you need to construct a funding proposal to allow DARE to decide how much money to give you for your project. Please include:

     - duration of project
     - proposed activities
     - what materials you will need
     - how much you expect these materials to costs
     - any other costs

You will need to consult with past volunteers and your hosts to get an idea of what things you will need and costs in your project country. You may decide to buy some materials before you go. Although things are cheaper in our host countries, they often do not have the same range of materials or availability e.g. of arts and crafts materials or teaching supplies.

Please ensure someone is in charge of your accounts book during the project. We will give you one of these when we give you your project money. You must note in this all transactions for your DARE account.

Flights and Visas

Please organise your group together to organise these. STA travel have offered DARE participants good deals in the past but also check other sources e.g. internet.

If you are planning to travel in the surrounding area before or after your project you may wish to fly into or out of a different city, which you may find cheaper. Your past volunteer contact will be able to advise you on this.
